Frequently Asked Questions
We are here to help you plan for a successful rock crushing or concrete recycling project. Here are some common questions we get asked.
What if there is a lot of dirt in the pile?
Our Kleemann impact crusher has an option giving us the ability to screen out the fines before it enters the crusher, greatly increasing the quality of the final product.
How do we know if there is enough to bring in a crusher?
Each job has unique requirements and sometimes even small jobs can recognize the benefit of on-site crushing.
How much room is needed for your crusher?
Surprisingly we work in some very tight places where other small conventional crusher and a screen plant will never even fit, and we still hit impressive tons each day
How many tons a day can you crush?
That greatly depends on many factors to include both the feed size and the final product, contamination in feedstock, moisture and what we are crushing, but production between 1,000 to 3,000 tons a day is normal.
How do we track what we crush?
We use the latest state of the art Belt-Way belt scales mounted on the stacking conveyors. This method weighs the material as we go so we know exactly how many tons we produce each day. Some companies measure the stockpiles and then try to convert yards to tons. This method is costly, time consuming, inaccurate, and very unfair to someone!
How much does it cost to crush?
We charge by the ton and rates vary greatly with each job, call for your special quote.
How do I know if my job is right for a crusher?
For many reasons, not all sites will benefit using a portable crusher. Call us and together we can discuss if it will work on your job.
I’ve seen others just rent the equipment and crush on their own, why can’t we do the same?
As I will always say, “The water’s warm, come on in! “ It’s never as easy as the rental salesman says it is so consider these often-overlooked details.
Even if the crusher is delivered on time as promised, you will need to pull people and equipment away from their normal work and try to train them to run it. Our experience shows about the same things happen each time. Guys will quickly say “I got it, I know what I’m doing.” But they truly lack the knowledge of how to properly set up the operation and feed it without stopping or jamming it up, and they can never get the potential production out of the crusher and usually end up extending the rental period, which just costs you more time and money. Then there’s always the possibility the equipment breaks down. In which case, you wait for someone to show up, order parts and maybe in a few days, it may be back to work again all while the schedule continues to creep in the wrong direction.
But what about all the different products I can make?
If you are trying to make a useable 1 ½” product like a CR6 or RC6 depending on your states designation, you will also need extra space for a screen plant, conveyors, (additional expense) that will generate not one but three products – that may or may not meet the proper shape size or gradation. Our experience shows in the end, many companies will bury the numbers in the job, or choose to ignore the real cost per ton, including all the additional time, manpower and equipment it took, not to mention classically ending up with a low-quality or unusable product.
